So you are a Travel Agent?

Brochure:

For this particular assignment, you have a couple of options that will result in very nice brochures. The two tools I recommend are Canva or Microsoft Word because:

  • Both tools here can be used collaboratively. You can grant access to your peers, they can edit it, and you can see all the editions. There is no need to emailing each other with “Brochure v1”, “Brochure v2”, “Brochure FINAL”, “Brochure OMG I FOUND A TYPO.”
  • Both tools have nice templates! It makes life so much easier because you can swap pictures in and out, edit the template text, change colors. Customizing the template to look like what you want is relatively easier and stress-free than trying to create one from a blank page.

So let’s delve into this:

   ‍

Word:

EVERY BMC student gets to download the Microsoft Suite for free!

To see all the brochure templates:

  • open Microsoft Word
  • Click on the tab “New”
  • Search for Brochures and select the one that will best fit your content in terms of pictures and text slots.

To share with your peers so that they can edit it online:

  • With your file open, click on “Share” at the top right corner of Word
  • Word will save the file into your OneDrive.
  • Write the BMC email of those you’d like to share the post with or click “Copy link” and share it with them.
  • Make sure that all the future changes you make to your brochure are on the file saved to your One Drive! That’s the only way your partner would be able to see it!

   ‍

PROS:

Most of you are already familiar with Microsoft Word. It is relatively easy to find and use templates.

CONS:

Not as aesthetically customizable as Canva. Some Mac users do not enjoy using Word.

   ‍

Canva:

Canva is a freemium online design tool. It has a LOT of free features and templates, but not all pictures and graphics are free.

To see all brochures:

  • Go to https://www.canva.com
  • Sign up for an account
  • Once you are signed up and signed in, under “What would you like to design?” search for “Travel Brochure” and click on the option that will show up
  • Select an option of design on your left that has Free written on it
  • Edit it away!
  • Once you are done, click on the download button (Arrow pointing down with a bar) and select PDF print.

To share with your peers so that they can edit it online:

  • With your design open, click on “Share” at the top right corner
  • Write the email of those you’d like to share the post with or click “Copy link” and share it with them.

   ‍

PROS:

If you are interested in Design, this tool can be handy for you. Templates are highly customizable, and Canva has an entire session of “Travel Brochure Templates.”

CONS:

Not as easy as Word. You’ll need to create (free) accounts to make your brochure.

   ‍

Regardless of the tool you choose, be creative and have fun advertising the country you chose! Make sure that when you are printing the homework, you select “Flip on the Shorter Edge” under the printing on both sides option! That way your brochure will not be upside down.

Video:

Before actually making your video, you should watch “Introduction to Storyboarding for Filmmakers”. This video will help you plan out your narrative visually, regardless of the specific tool you choose to use to make the video.

We recommend using WeVideo because it once again allows for collaborative editing. LITS has a subscription for it and many resources for when you have all the materials ready to compile your video.
