The Mechanics of Urban Social Capital
I investigate how daily mobility, real-time street-level interactions, and acute environmental adversity shape localized trust, social capital and informal control across neighborhoods in Chicago and Rio de Janeiro.
Trust & Community Trajectories
I examine how divergent real-time trust perceptions between residents and visitors predict neighborhood long-term crime rates, the prevalence of chronic health conditions (including coronary heart disease, diabetes, and stroke), and broader trajectories of urban inequality.
Trust & Connectedness in Digital Space
Using Community-Based Participatory Research with online communities, I study how algorithmic shifts, generative AI prevalence, and community norms shape trust and cohesion in digital neighborhoods.

I am a Ph.D. Candidate in Sociology at Cornell University, and I am on the 2026–2027 academic job market.
My research focuses on understanding how communities, particularly in Latin America and the U.S., mobilize resources in the face of social and environmental inequality, and how social interactions and spatial dynamics shape processes of social integration in both online and offline communities. I use a diverse range of methods, including spatial statistics, ecological momentary assessments (EMAs), multilevel and network modeling, and qualitative fieldwork, to uncover how groups build mutual support amid inequality and adversity.
My research has been published in Urban Studies and is supported by the Cornell Dean’s Excellence Fellowship, the Cornell Dissertation Completion Fellowship, the Qualitative and Interpretive Research Institute (QUIRI) Small Grants, and the Hanna Holborn Gray Fellowship. At Cornell, I have also served as a Graduate Research Assistant at the Citizens and Technology (CAT) Lab and as the 2021 Warren J. Mitofsky Fellow at the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research. I’m also a Fundação Estudar Fellow.
Fluent in Portuguese and English, I hold a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from Bryn Mawr College and previously worked as an Educational Technologist at Barnard College and Bryn Mawr College.
