Funk Carioca Networks
Derived from Miami Bass, funk is one of the most important music styles in Brazil. Thanks to funk‘s nationalization, people from favelas were able to gain an active voice inside and outside of their community.
Kondzilla is the biggest Brazilian Channel and top 10 in the world. It focuses exclusively on producing funk songs.
Using Kondzilla’s Youtube channel’s metadata, I’m mapping a network of funkeiros based on frequent collaboration to assess how different funk modalities spread across the network. I’ll update this page in a couple of months with my analysis.
In the meantime, here is a quick EDA. Each circle represents a different artist. The color shows the number of collaborations. The size represents the number of views.
